ICT CONNECTS DISABLED PEOPLE

Last week the small remote village of Tshokwe was full of life as it hosted this year's World Telecommunications & Information Technology Day.The theme of this year was "connecting persons with disabilities:Information Communications Technology for all."The minister of communication, science & technology Pelonomi Venson Moitoi who was guest speaker at this commemoration says it is crucial that all members of the society are included in the use of ICT including those with disabilities. She mentioned a number of projects initiated by Botswana Technology center among others the solar hearing aid and the telemedicine aimed at improving access to better health information services and linking disabled people with health and support centers.I think Botswana has made a tremendous growth in the IT sector.Today a lot of people are computer literate and have access to internet services, something that was once heard of only in government offices. As they say Rome was not built in one day, slowly but surely the nation will get there.Recognition of disabled people shows that the nation want to move forward as one,no stone left unturned.
